काली मिर्च का सर्वाधिक उपयोग मसालो मे किया जाता है। केरल जो की मसालो का राज्य या मसालो का घर है वहाँ इसे मसालो की रानी कहा जाता है।
काली मिर्च अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय व्यापार का महत्वपूर्ण पदार्थ है विश्व मे काली मिर्च का सबसे बड़ा उत्पादक देश वियतानाम है। जो की कुल दुनिया का 34% उत्पादन करता है। काली मिर्च उत्पादन मे इंडोनेशिया दूसरे व भारत तीसरे स्थान पर है।
भारत के काली मिर्च उत्पादन करने वाले राज्य - भारत मे उत्पादित कुल काली मिर्च का 98% उत्पादन केरल राज्य मे होता है इसके बाद कर्नाटक व तमिलनाडु राज्य है।
