यह एक विशेष प्रकार का फल है। नारियल को श्रीफल भी कहते है। नारियल को वंडर प्लांट के नाम से भी जानते है। क्योकी कपास के बाद नारियल ही ऐसा पेड़ है जिससे तेल, खाद्य पदार्थ व रेशे तीनो प्राप्त होते है। नारियल का तना ताड के नाम से जाना जाता है। जिसकी लंबाई 10-12 मीटर होती है। लेकिन कुछ पेड़ों की लंबाई 25 मीटर तक हो जाती है। ताड के ऊपरी भाग पर 30-40 सयुक्त पत्ती पाई जाती है। एक पत्ती की लंबाई 2-6 मीटर होती है।
इस पर मुख्यत: असीमाछक(सयुक्त) प्रकार का फूल पाया जाता है। एक पुष्प क्रम पर तीस से चालीस पार्श्व शाखाए पाई जाती है। ओर एक पार्श्व शाखा पर 10-15 फल पाये जाते है। औसतन एक पेड़ पर 300-600 फल लगते है। नारियल के फल को विकसित होने मे 1 साल का समय लगता है। और नारियल का फल वर्ष भर प्राप्त होता रहता है। नारियल का फल तीन हिस्सों मे बटा होता है। नारियल का फल 15-30cm लम्बा होता है।
नारियल के आर्थिक उपयोग
नारियल से तेल बनाया जाता है। नारियल के तेल का उपयोग खाद्य तेल के रूप मे किया जाता है। और नारियल का तेल केस तेल के रूप मे भी प्रचलित है। इसके तेल से हाइड्रोजनीकरण की प्रक्रिया से वंशपति घी निकला जाता है।
सम्पुर्ण विश्व में इंडोनेशिया, फिलिस्तीन, भारत, केन्या, बांग्लादेश व श्रीलंका मे बोया जाता है। भारत मे सर्वाधिक नारियल उत्पादन केरल राज्य करता है भारत के कुल नारियल उत्पादन का 46% केरल राज्य करता है। इसके अतिरिक्त तमिलनाडु, कर्नाटक ,आन्ध्रप्रदेश ,गोवा दीव व दमन महाराष्ट्र, उडीसा, पश्चिम बंगाल व गुजरात है।
